FAQS

What is a water pump or a hydraulic pump?

A water pump is a device that transforms mechanical energy into hydraulic energy from the water or fluid is trying to move. In this way, pressure is supplied to the water in order to achieve its movement and it can be distributed from point A to point B.

A hydraulic pump can have several applications related to the pumping and displacement of liquids, in domestic or in industrial use, extracting water from wells, pressurizing buildings, increasing pressure or flow, emptying swimming pools, filling tanks, irrigation of agricultural areas or gardens, among the others.

In the case of the water pumps of Pumpalia, these can also be described as electrical pumps, since the motor is powered by electric power.

Advantages of hydraulic pumps

How does a water pump work?

A wide variety of applications in different areas: Water pumps can be applied to the industrial and agricultural sectors but there also models that are perfectly compatible with domestic or residential use of a private homes.

Low level of noise: Electric water pumps have a lower noise level than the rest.

Ease of use, efficiency and profitability: Hydraulic pumps are easy to install and require low maintenance.

First of all, water is suctioned by the suction pipe of the hydraulic pump and is then driven by a electric motor that rotates the impeller’s paddels.

Paddles make the water enter through the center of the rotor with a large centrifugal force due to the compression of the liquid. From here comes the next pressure that causes the fluid to flow quickly and with more flow rate.

How to choose the most suitable water pump

Once we have clear for what purpose we need a water pump, it will be easier to choose the type of pump we have to acquire. So, before choosing a water pump, we must take into account the following questions:

1. What type of liquid should be pumped?

Clean waters: All clear waters, for domestic consumption, sea water or water treated with chlorine, ozone or other liquids are included. In this group, most centrifugal, surface or submersible pumps are installed.

Dirty waters: All waters used or loaded from septic tanks or waste waters, containing particles in suspension are included. Also included are infiltration or stagnant waters that can not be used. With this type of water, drainage pumps (for low amounts of suspended solids) or residual water pumps with vortex impeller (for water with a lot of particles load in suspension) are often used.

2. Which is the origin of liquid to be pumped?

The assembly of the water pump depends on the location of the liquid. If the liquid comes from a well, we should install a submersible pump, the diameter of which depends on the diameter of the well.

If the liquid to pump is in a tank, lake, pond or river, surface pump mist be installed.

3. What is the performance of the pump?

Before purchasing a water pump, we have to take into account a number of factors that determinate the performance of the water, and therefore, guide us on its suitability according to our expectations.

Among these we highlight the volume of the fluid required in a specific time, the maximum working pressure, the maintenance of the hydraulic pump (frequency of breakdowns and the possibility of repairing them without asking for help to specialists) and energy that pump needs.

4. Which is the application of the chosen pump?

Depending on the applications, we will use a different type of water pump:

  • Submersible water pump: This type of pumps are used to raise water to a surface. These pumps can be applied in clean waters as for waste waters.
  • Pool circulation pump: This type of water pumps have an automated mechanism that recycles water between the pool and its filtration systems.
  • Water pressure hydraulic pump: When the water network is not sufficient to provide the desired water pressure, it’s necessary to install a pressurization system that offers a constant pressure of water.
  • Water pump for heating: Water circulates through a closed circuit of pipes from a boiler that hot the water and takes it to the heating radiator.
